What it is
A Rust toolkit of four command-line programs: Forge for building and testing, Cast for talking to EVM chains, Anvil as a local node, and Chisel as an interactive Solidity shell. Tests are written in Solidity rather than JavaScript.
What it helps with
- Writing fuzz and invariant tests that throw random inputs at contract functions
- Forking a live chain locally to reproduce an incident or check a fix
- Reading chain data and decoding transactions from the terminal
- Tracing and debugging failing calls step by step
Who it's for
Smart contract developers and auditors testing contracts they own or are authorized to assess.
Worth knowing
Forge tests can use cheatcodes, such as warp to set the block timestamp. A built-in linter, forge lint, flags issues such as unsafe cheatcode use.
Can it run on Windows?
Yes, through Git Bash or WSL for the installer, or by building from source.
