What it is
A client and server system from Google that lets analysts run flows and hunts against fleets of machines. Agents run on Windows, macOS, and Linux and return file, process, and memory artifacts to a central server.
What it helps with
- Asking the same forensic question of thousands of hosts
- Pulling files, registry data, and process lists at scale
- Scheduling recurring hunts for known IOCs
- Keeping a server-side timeline of collected evidence
Who it's for
Incident responders, detection engineers, and enterprise DFIR teams.
Worth knowing
Clients are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The server is typically deployed on Linux and managed through a web UI.
How is it different from Velociraptor?
In our view both do remote live response; Velociraptor centers on VQL notebooks, while GRR centers on flows and hunts.
Does it replace disk imaging tools?
No, it collects live artifacts remotely; deep offline analysis still needs tools such as Volatility or a full disk image.
